Plant Tuscan Footed Cup & Saucer Multi-Color Floral w/Seafoam & Gold 1947-1960Plant Tuscan Footed Cup & Saucer Multi-Color Floral w/Seafoam & Gold 1947-1960
A beautiful PLANT TUSCAN CUP & SAUCER Set #D1527 TRIESTE w/Seafoam, Multi-Color w/Gold, Circa 1947-1960 from Burslem, Staffordshire, England
DESCRIPTION:
This superb quality item is a decorative cup & saucer set in the brown Trieste pattern with seafoam. The pattern looks so elegant with the gold trim on the handle & foot. The golden brown scrollwork inside the cup is very pretty. The floral pattern is a combination of blue, green and magenta on the brown seafoam background.
There is a tight hairline on the cup reaching from the rim to the foot, but not into the foot. This would make a beautiful display piece, but is NOT watertight. This cup would be excellent for the crafty person to fill with wax to make a beautiful candle!
CONDITION:
While this set classified as used, we can find no chips, nicks, rubbings, scratches, cracks, other hairlines, or repairs.
There is a tight hairline on the cup reaching from the rim to the foot, but not into the foot. This would make a beautiful display piece, but is NOT watertight.
See photo #9.
There appears to be absolutely no wear to the vivid colors and no crazing. There is no wear to the gold trim on the rims, but there is wear to the gold on the cup's handle where someone held the top of the handle. See the photos. The cup & saucer are beautiful and classically decorated.
DIMENSIONS:
The cup has a diameter of 3 7/16" with a height of 2 7/8". The deep saucer has a diameter of 5 5/8" and a height of 7/8".
HISTORY/MARKS:
The Plant family had been making pottery in Longton in the late 18th century. About 1900 two Plant brothers established a major factory called Tuscan Works that in 1915 became R.H. & S.L. Plant Ltd. On the factory building were the words, "Our Work ... Our Pride." Tuscan Works produced what was considered a fine line of china made by adding bone ash to a clay mixture. In 1970 the plant was acquired by Wedgwood, the world-famous ceramic maker and by 2006 the plant closed. The mark on this set is Tuscan Fine English Bone China (R.H. & S.L. Plant, Ltd.) Made in England which Geoffrey A. Godden's Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks, designates this as mark #3064 used 1947-1960.
